Metabolic Imaging Facilities
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multinuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) are extensively used to investigate body composition, organ function and tissue metabolism. Advanced imaging approaches enable the non-invasive assessment of anatomical, physiological and metabolic processes in vivo, offering valuable insights into health, disease mechanisms and responses to nutritional, pharmacological and exercise interventions.
A key strength of NUTRIM is the integration of imaging technologies with physiological measurements, stable isotope tracer methodologies, nutritional interventions and exercise testing. This multidisciplinary approach enables comprehensive phenotyping and facilitates the study of metabolism across multiple biological scales, from the whole body to individual organs and tissues.
The Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine provides access to a broad range of clinical imaging modalities and expertise, supporting patient-oriented and translational research. Scannexus complements this infrastructure with state-of-the-art 3 Tesla and 7 Tesla MRI systems, enabling advanced research in both healthy volunteers and patient populations.
