Tuition fees when starting your studies in February
Some master's programmes at Maastricht University offer a start in February. If you decide to use this possibility, this has some consequences for the rate of your tuition fees as well. The information on this page is about tuition fees when starting your studies in February.
How are my tuition fees calculated if I start my master's programme on 1 February?
Your tuition fees cover an entire academic year, i.e. from September up until August. If you start your study programme during the academic year in February, you will have to pay 7/12ths of the applicable tuition fee (statutory or institutional) for following your study programme from February until the end of August. Before the start of the new academic year in September you have to re-enrol for the programme you began in February, because all study programmes at UM run for at least 12 months. So, if you start your master's in February, it will run at least up and until January the next year. This means you will have payments due at two different times: once in February, when you begin your study programme, and once in September, when the new academic year begins. Note that when you re-enrol for the new academic year, you will then have to pay for the entire (new) academic year, even if you expect to graduate during this year. Once you have graduated, the UM will reimburse you any tuition fees you might have already paid for the months of the academic year after your de-enrolment.
Please note: the amount of the tuition fees are determined yearly before the start of the new academic year and may differ from the previous academic year, because of the annual indexation of the statutory tuition rate by the government and the amended determination of the institutional fees by the UM based on the government modified funding rules. This means that when you started a study programme in February and are continuing this study programme in September, the tuition fee due from September onwards may be higher for the remaining months needed to finalise your programme.
