Maastricht Human Performance Lab
The Maastricht Human Performance Lab is a joint research infrastructure established by NUTRIM (FHML) and Maastricht UMC+. Under this umbrella, three complementary facilities have been brought together to link research, clinical practice and innovation in the field of human movement.
Human Performance Infrastructure
Within an integrated research environment, motion analysis, clinical application and virtual rehabilitation come together. This infrastructure enables the accurate and integrated measurement and analysis of muscle function, gait patterns, balance and daily mobility. The insights generated support both fundamental and clinical research and are directly translated into applications in healthcare and rehabilitation.
Thanks to this combination of facilities, the Human Performance Lab can address complex issues surrounding the effects of disease, ageing and inactivity on muscle function and movement patterns. It also offers opportunities to develop and evaluate targeted interventions that improve recovery and physical performance. The knowledge gained contributes to innovative rehabilitation programmes, effective fall prevention strategies and personalised treatments for people with chronic conditions and mobility limitations.
The lab serves as an open, multidisciplinary environment for researchers, clinicians, students and partners from the healthcare, sport and industry sectors. By combining expertise in metabolism, physical activity and healthy ageing with advanced technology, the Human Performance Lab contributes to solutions that enable people to live independently, safely and actively for longer.

For diagnostics and treatment in a patient-centred setting.
CAREN System (NUTRIM and Maastricht UMC+)
An advanced, computer-controlled virtual rehabilitation environment in which subjects and patients are safely exposed to realistic movement challenges, whilst camera, force and sensor measurement systems continuously collect data.
