Maastricht University’s core tasks are academic education and scientific research. The support activities which enable the execution of these core tasks are called operations management, or operations for short. This includes matters such as housing and mobility, but also the creation of a healthy and inclusive work environment.
Vision on sustainabilty
Sustainability is one of UM’s four core values. We want to be a sustainable organisation in the broadest sense of the word. For our operations, this means that UM is:
- taking socially responsibility by connecting with society, both internally and externally, and also by connecting, for example, with other knowledge institutes, the municipality of Maastricht and the region.
- following trends and best practices set by other organisations and implementing them if they are also relevant to UM.
- focusing on proven techniques
- l taking a leading position a innovator whenever integration is possible, such as knowledge from education and research
UM has identified the following set of themes for its business operations which it plans to focus on in the coming years:
|Sustainable employability||Procurement||Real estate, campus & biodiversity|
|Food & catering||Energy and climate||ICT|
& circular economy
