Zina Nimeh

Zina currently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Social Protection and Human Development at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG). She is the coordinator of the Social Protection Masters Specialisation, and is also the co-coordinator of the Social Protection, Inclusive Innovation and Development research theme. Her work focuses on social protection and social security policy and financing, social exclusion, poverty and inequality measurement, governance reform and public policy analysis with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa.

Outside academia she has had managerial and consulting experience in the areas of human development, social policies and public sector reform with focus on Employment and Education. She has applied experience in policy development and implementation and continues to work as a consultant for the ILO and UNICEF.

Melline Somers

Melline Somers

Melline is a PhD student at the Top Institute for Evidence Based Education Research. Her research is focused on the mismatch between education and the labour market. Melline studied International Business Economics at Maastricht University and completed the Master of Science programme Management of Learning. She wrote her master thesis at the Research Centre for Education and the Labor market about the underlying determinants of regretting educational choices and specifically examined the role of labour market conditions and personality traits.

Melline has a great interest in societal issues. Outside academia she was involved as a participant in the National ThinkTank that worked on practical solutions for a 'future-proof vocational education system' in the Netherlands. Moreover, she participated in the Erasmus for Young Enterpreneurs Programme with Made in Carcere, a social enterprise that offers training programmes to inmates in Southern Italy. The courses teach incarcerated people to make bags and accessories from waste materials to acquire post-prison skills.

Jeroen Moes

Jeroen Moes

Jeroen is lecturer Research Methods at University College Maastricht (UCM). His background is in Sociology, (Social/Cultural) Anthropology, and Political Science. He is interested in research methods, and has experience in quantitative and qualitative approaches including visual methods, frame analysis, and social network analysis. Beyond methods as tools for gathering and analysing data, he has a particular substantive interest in collective identities, nationalism, European integration, globalisation, and the role of space and place within those subjects. He is currently finalizing his PhD at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.

Pietro Bonizzi

Pietro Bonizzi

Pietro Bonizzi received his PhD in biomedical engineering from the Laboratoire d'Informatique, Signaux et Systèmes de Sophia Antipolis (I3S), France. He is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) at Maastricht University. His research interests are on signal processing, time series analysis, time series decomposition, time-frequency analysis, with application to biomedical signals, in particular to the study of the complexity of biological signals and to the inverse problem in electrocardiography.

His teaching activities are focused on knowledge engineering, mathematics, statistics, and scientific computing in the bachelor programme, and on time series analysis, signal processing and system theory in the master programme Data Science for Decision Making at DKE.

Ellen Narinx-Schrauwen

Ellen Narinx-Schrauwen

Ellen Narinx-Schrauwen is Valorisation Officer at the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE). Her main focus is KE@Work, but she happily combines this with alumni affairs, employability and external business contacts. Ellen started working for UM in September 2015.

In the past two years year she has come to appreciate the diversity in her faculty. Although FSE is composed of a very diverse group of departments and institutions, in the end everybody wants the same: which is the best for students and staff. As a member of the Faculty Council Ellen hopes she can play a role in achieving this.

Chantal Rogers

Chantal Rogers

Chantal is Admissions Officer / Coordinator Academic Advising at University College Maastricht (UCM). She started working at UCM in November 2002 and has worked in several departments since. Being involved in the admissions process and reviewing all applications is something Chantal enjoys doing, however, after so many years she felt it was time for something new and therefore, since January 2017 she is combining the job of Admissions Officer with the role of Coordinator of Academic Advising. That way Chantal actually gets to know our students and is able to help them throughout their years at UCM. As a member of this council she hopes to get even more involved with our faculty.

Phineas Shapiro

Phineas Shapiro is in his second year at UCM focusing on political philosophy and sociology, specifically issues of social and economic justice. He is passionate about representing the interests of the students at all of FSE’s diverse departments, and looks forward to coordinating with students and study associations across the faculty as well as increasing awareness of student representation at UM. 

In the Council Phineas strives to make the work of the faculty more transparent and accessible for students, as well as representing the concerns of all students to the Faculty Board.
