Councils and Water Boards tax (BsGW)
As a Limburg resident, you may receive an annual tax bill (aanslagbiljet) from the Councils and Water Boards Tax Collaboration (Belastingsamenwerking Gemeenten en Waterschappen, BsGW). These bills are only available in Dutch, so we have provided a document in English that explains the bill for you.
About the BsGW
The BsGW levies and collects all local taxes on behalf of the municipal councils and water boards. The tax bill indicates the water tax, the council tax and any property tax you owe under the Real Estate Assessment Act (WOZ). Typically, the oldest resident of the house or the resident that has been registered at the house the longest will receive the tax bill under his or her name. For some student houses, the estimated taxes are included in the rent.
Depending on your financial situation, you may qualify for a waiver of the tax (kwijtschelding).
If you receive the BsGW bill, please ensure that you:
- check if you qualify for a waiver of the tax (kwijtschelding) before you pay
- pay the bill on time if you do not qualify for a waiver in order to avoid extra costs, such as reminder fees
- contact the BsGW if you have questions about the bill. You can find their contact details on the bill, or see the FAQs at www.bsgw.nl
Please note that all forms and the BsGW’s website are only available in Dutch but you can usually speak to a BsGW representative in English if you need to contact them.
