Sustainability

From here…

At Maastricht University, sustainability is a cornerstone of our education programmes, our research and our everyday operations. The UM Sustainability Roadmap 2030, our sustainability strategy, will guide that process. Going sustainable as a university is not a one-day task, nor a one-way street. It’s a path towards a goal that is always moving. Since ideas about what is sustainable change quite regularly, sustainability is not a box you check once and leave at that.

 …to various sustainability projects

Because sustainability is a fluid goal, our approach is flexible and multifaceted. We will highlight sustainability projects initiated by students, staff members, and the university itself. Some may focus on changing personal habits, others on improving the university grounds, but all of them bring us one step closer to our goals.

…to you

We invite you to join the cause and take part in the implementation of the Roadmap 2030. We need your input on how we could improve our policies and your enthusiasm to push existing initiatives further. Together, we strive for a green, healthy, and thriving UM community, working towards a climate-neutral and circular UM campus. So take the leap with us…

…to a sustainable university

What we do

At UM we strongly believe that working together makes us stronger. When we join forces, we learn from each other and come to a more multifaceted solution. Solutions that benefit the world around us. Guided by the Sustainability Roadmap 2030, we are working on various projects within our pillars of education, research and operations. How beautiful can a polluted landscape be?

Anyone who walks along the meandering river Geul sees a postcard scene: rolling hills, half-timbered houses, grazing cows, a watermill giving rhythm to the landscape. Yet beneath that idyllic image lies an uncomfortable reality.
