Frequency
This course is organized twice a year, usually in the Spring and Fall.
Target group
Medical specialists who carry responsibility for medical-radiological actions with X-ray devices, as well as medical specialists in training.
Study goals
After taking this course, the participant is able to:
- perform –rightly justified- medical procedures in such a way, that a patient will receive a radiation dose that is reasonably low, and the risk of the procedure for the patient is kept as low as possible (ALARA-principle);
- safely work with X-ray radiation according to the ALARA-principle, so avoid unnecessary exposure for himself, other workers and possibly present aides;
- broadly explain radiation risks to patients, their family members or others involved if requested or whenever necessary. Also, the medical specialist communicates with clinical physicists, technicians, nurses and radiation protection experts about optimizing exposure to radiation within the department. Next to exposure of patients, this also includes exposure of employees and third parties, as well as legal limits and restrictions. The medical specialist will not hesitate to consult with experts (clinical Physicists, radiologists) whenever necessary.
