Managing Director BISS
BISS will be governed by a management team based on collaborative leadership and its members will be senior scientists and the managing director. In this management team each faculty will be represented by a senior scientist (PI), leading a group of academics. For these principal investigators the shared responsibility focusses on joint development and implementation of the collaborative scientific strategy, direction and content, as on the number of interactions and level of involvement of scientific staff from their home faculty, the multidisciplinary and team aspects. BISS will be supported by a team of professionals with administrative, financial, legal and organisational tasks. The BISS support team will consist of 5 to 8 FTE (more in headcount) and BISS as a whole is to grow towards 30 FTE.
The Managing Director is to bring strong organizational management and leadership. The MD is responsible for the operational activities necessary to operate as a centre of excellence and is to oversee and enhance the full set of strategic objectives of BISS as an institute. Focus will be on operations, availability of support and facilities, financial viability, securing agreements and conditions, link with campus and (potential) research partners (companies, institutions, governments etc). Acquisition is a shared responsibility with a substantial role for both the PI’s and the MD. The MD will address possible imbalances within the BISS MT and if necessary beyond.
In the day-to-day activities the MD is recognized as the point of contact for all partners, also fulfilling a leadership role to inspire BISS personnel and partners, showing engagement in the activities that are key to reach the strategic objectives of BISS.
