Training and Using Simulated Patients For Teaching and Assessment

Simulated and standardized patients are used widely in health education.  This course is designed to teach participants to recruit, train, and supervise the performance of SP for both teaching and assessment. This is a three-day face-to-face course with a maximum of 25 participants. The workshop will be provided in English.

In this course, we focus on developing an educational programme with simulation patients. Discussion topics include the development of working formats, writing cases and training SP in both role-play and giving feedback. Emphasis of the course is on (inter)active learning-by-doing. You will be asked to bring in your own SP cases that will be utilized during the course. In addition we will write cases on the spot. SP will be trained to perform these cases

  • The international collaboration makes this course special. The workshop will provide a platform for exchange of (international) experiences and the course will be facilitated by trainers from different European countries.

  • Using a variety of techniques to train SPs in roleplay and providing feedback

Student profile

Course level will focus on staff (SP-educators) that already have (some) experience in working with SPs and specifically targets to attract a variety of SP-educators from a number of European
countries, encouraging national and foremost European international collaboration.
