Problem-Based Learning meets AI in the classroom

PBL has been the teaching method at Maastricht University since 1976. Students learn actively in small groups by solving problems together. Now that AI is becoming more common in education, the question arises: what role should AI play within PBL?

Lower risk of repeating a grade? Not all schools are the same…

At some schools, students are more likely to repeat a grade than at others. This isn’t just about how a student performs, but also about the school itself. That’s according to new research from Maastricht University and Hasselt University.

In my opinion, one of the best aspects of the European Studies programme is its interdisciplinary approach, allowing you to switch between various subjects such as economics, law and international relations.

For me, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach made the programme more constructive as it encouraged critical thinking and active engagement within an international context.

Recognition & Rewards

UM wants to ensure every employee has a fulfilling career in which their capabilities are used, seen and recognised by others.

In 2019, Dutch public academic institutions and funders of research (UNL, NFU, KNAW, NWO and ZonMw) launched a nationwide initiative to redefine the recognition and reward of university staff.

Our university's president Rianne Letschert is co-leading the programme for the entire university sector together with the rector of the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam.

The community was warm and welcoming from the start, making it easy for me to adapt. I also had the opportunity to engage in discussions with very enthusiastic lecturers on a wide range of topics, which made learning about these subjects enjoyable.

During my bachelor’s in Literary & Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam, I developed a keen interest in Gender & Sexuality studies. For my master’s, I wanted to find an interdisciplinary programme that combined these fields, catered to my broad interests, and helped me develop my academic skills. That’s why I chose to study the research master Culture of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST).
