Autonomic Control

Crossroad

Research theme: Rehabilitation and Prevention
Clinical pillar: Autonomic Control

This research focusses on rehabilitation of control of urinary bladder, sphincter and lower urinary tract mainly caused by neurological trauma and disease.

Unique contributions and highlights

In collaboration with the rehabilitation unit Adalante, dysfunction of storage and evacuation of bladder and lower urinary tract is diagnosed and treated.

New techniques are being developed in collaboration with MerLN using cell and tissue regenerative techniques for reconstruction of the lower urinary tract function.

In addition MUMC Urology is referral center for highly specialized reconstructive techniques involving the lower urinary tract. The opportunity to combine these anatomical reconstruction techniques with functional reconstructive strategies to regain control is unique.
