MCEL events
MCEL organises two types of regular meetings, each of which takes place on a monthly basis during academic term: (i) the MCEL Seminars, which consists of research presentations by reputable external speakers on questions of EU law, and (ii) the MCEL Fora, reserved to members, in which researchers of the Centre present their own (draft) research.
In addition, the Centre organises an annual academic opening event in September of each year, in the form of a half-day workshop with external speakers (both academics and practitioners) on a subject of current interest in EU law, herewith connecting with the larger academic community, whilst reaching out to practice.
Upcoming events
MCEL Seminars
The Maastricht Centre for European Law organises monthly seminars with high-profile speakers to enable the members of the Faculty to discuss the current topics of EU law. The seminars, in which both members of the Faculty as well as external speakers and practitioners are invited to present their ongoing research, are aimed at an exchange of opinions and intended to provide feedback to researchers on their work. The seminars are usually organised on a second Tuesday of each month.
MCEL Fora
The Maastricht Centre for European Law organises monthly fora where MCEL members discuss their ongoing research, presenting draft papers and analysing recent legal developments or interesting decisions of the Court of Justice. The fora allow in particular junior (PhD) researchers and visiting researchers to present their projects to the MCEL community and receive feedback from peers and colleagues.
Opening of the Academic Year Event
Every year, to inaugurate the activities of MCEL in the new academic year, we organise a thematic Opening Event. In line with our Centre’s approach, our Opening Event brings together practitioners, academics, and students interested in discussing topical issues in EU law. The Opening Event changes focus every year in accordance with the theme of the MCEL Master Thesis Project and is convened by the coordinators of the Project.
