ERD’s research and teaching is dedicated to preparing students for the business professions. We are passionate about sharing our expertise with professionals and organizations on how to improve learning and professional development practices. Our passion has resulted in creating strong connections with professional practice, consultancy firms, and organizations helping them with improving work practices. 

ERD is known for its expertise in problem-based learning and related innovative learning approaches. This has created a substantial knowledge base that enables us to connect our delivery of education to the learning needs of its participants. Our approach consists of a well-balanced mix of analyzing challenges faced by its participants bringing it together with insights from academic research. In our view, learning starts with analyzing experiences as acquired in practice. This implies that together with the participants we focus on the analysis of their challenges, instead of simply delivering solutions as can be found in books.

Our work on custom solutions for organizations focuses on broadening expertise on teams, leadership, and judgment and decision-making. Together with UMIO (https://www.umio.nl/) we create tailor-made programs on a wide range of learning and development challenges. For example, we offer modules on talent identification and talent development, how leaders can create conditions for optimal teamwork, and how organizations can diagnose and change their learning culture.

Over the past twenty years, we have worked with many organizations on how to improve their learning culture. For example, we work with school governance boards to help teachers to improve their teamwork. We also collaborate with professional service firms such as accountancy firms and pension funds on assessing their teamwork practices and the consequences for team leadership. We contribute to company events on how to improve their performance based on team practices. Finally, we create learning tracks for different management layers in organizations helping them to assess their learning and development practices and evaluating whether core conditions for change and improvement have been met.
