Research Overview

Our research focuses on Learning and Development within both organizational and higher education contexts. We are committed to conducting research that has direct practical relevance, ensuring that our findings contribute meaningfully to real-world applications. To achieve this, we engage closely with practitioners and collaborate directly with organizations and educational institutions.

Our studies examine Learning and Development at multiple levels, including individuals, teams, organizations, and broader networks. Our primary aim is to deepen the understanding of learners, the learning process, effective learning activities, and learning outcomes. While our research takes place in a variety of educational and professional settings, the central theme of Learning and Development remains at the core of all our work.

Research in Organizational Contexts

In the field of organizational learning, our recent research has explored workplace learning, judgment and decision-making, team learning, leadership, expertise development, stress, learning climate, and the concept of the learning organization. These studies involve multiple stakeholders at various levels within organizations, ensuring a comprehensive and practical approach to our research.

Research in Higher Education

Within higher education, our research has recently focused on professional development, technology-enhanced learning, skill development and employability, well-being, self-regulated learning, creativity, instructional design, assessment and evaluation, reflection, and mentoring/coaching. Our studies involve students, educators, and other key stakeholders in academic institutions.

Research Approach

We employ a diverse range of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method approaches, selecting methodologies that best align with our research questions. We highly value collaborative and interdisciplinary research and are committed to team-science, fostering teamwork within our department, across departments as well as across faculties.

Collaboration with Practice

Ensuring the practical applicability of our research is a top priority. To achieve this, we actively collaborate with various types of organizations in both professional and educational settings, integrating real-world insights into our research.

Evidence-Informed Activities

Our commitment to research directly influences our educational and professional development initiatives. We ensure that our findings inform our consultancy activities for organizations, professional development programs for staff within our faculty (SBE Learning Academy), and the curricula of our Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. By embedding research-driven insights into our own Learning and Development initiatives, we uphold our dedication to evidence-informed practices.
