Acclaimed novelist Amitav Ghosh on our collective failure to address climate change, as dicussed in his book The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable. Ghosh will be presented with an honorary doctorate from Maastricht University during the 43rd Dies Natalis.

A new study, led by researchers from the Universities of Liverpool and Copenhagen, has been launched to identify the risks and benefits of sugar replacements in the diet. The Department of Human Biology from Maastricht University is also a partner in this large European Initiative. The team is led by Prof Ellen Blaak with coworkers Dr Gijs Goossens and Dr Tanja Adam.

Are foreign researchers entitled to childcare benefit in the Netherlands? Expertise Centre ITEM investigated a case and concluded that the tax authorities don’t take sufficient account of European rules in the matter. ITEM has filed the case with the court, which is expected to rule soon.
