The Maastricht Consulates Prize on EU Law 2023
22-03-2023The Consul Association has jointly decided to award a prize (value: 1000 euro) for the best master thesis in the field of EU law, written at the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University during the academic year 2022/2023. The Prize will be awarded to the student who wrote a thesis of outstanding quality.

Little attention paid to cooperation with neighbouring countries in lead-up to elections in border provinces
13-03-2023The topic of cross-border cooperation plays only a modest role in the party manifestos for the upcoming provincial elections, even in border provinces. This is one of the findings of a thematic analysis by researchers from ITEM, Maastricht University’s transnational expertise centre.

KNAW chooses Nozizwe Dube for Faces of Science

Provincial elections from a cross-border perspective
02-03-2023On Wednesday 15 March 2023, there will be elections in the Netherlands. We will then vote for the Provincial Council and the District Water Board. Seven of the 12 Dutch provinces border a neighbouring country. Cross-border cooperation and special attention for border regions is therefore extra important. According to Eurostat's definition, the entire province of Limburg qualifies as a border region.

Maastrich University joins The Erasmus+ ECOffee Project On Sustainable Coffee Consumption
09-02-2023This 2 years ERASMUS+ project aims to develop innovative educational methods to promote sustainable consumption habits to adults. In particular, the project will be targeted to producers and consumers in the coffee industry. The goal of the project is to utilise existing and develop new tools and methods based on the principles of Technology Enhanced Learning to trigger transformative, systemic change in consumption habits and incentive people, and especially millennials, to turn to more sustainable ways of life. UM joins as a scientific partner to provide guidance for the development of the educational tools and nudge strategies.

CHAINLAW: Responsive Law for Global Value Chains
07-02-2023Doctrine, documents, data – this is the trinity which Anna Beckers will analyse in her ERC-funded project CHAINLAW. The project will lay the foundation for developing a regulatory framework in response to the socio-economic institutions that make up global value chains. Her holistic approach will consider the role of trading practices, contract terms, and the involved networks of auditors and certifiers, as well as transnational legal structures and interventions from states.
