Courses & curriculum

This unique programme, jointly offered by Maastricht University and United Nations University, is a one-year, full-time Master's degree taught in English. The programme focuses on evidence-based policy, and students gain the knowledge and skills required to design and analyse policies.

The first semester is the same for all students; the focus is on the theories and practice of governance and policy analysis. You will take courses and skills trainings covering the general aspects relevant in the fields of governance and policy analysis. This will provide you with a strong foundation, and at the end of this first semester, you will choose an area of specialisation. The programme director and the specialisation coordinators will support you in making this choice.

In this programme, you will also actively participate in public policy research and complete a master’s thesis under the close supervision of a senior member of the academic staff.

Short Courses

The Master Programme in Public Policy and Human Development is organised in such a way that students can also enroll in the separate courses. Most courses run for 8 weeks and are concluded with a written exam and/or assignment. Students receive a certificate and credits for every course completed successfully.
