Maastricht University education research
In collaboration with the faculties, EDLAB fosters the vitality and sustainability of education research in relation to education innovation at Maastricht University.
We achieve this by:
- Facilitating and funding research projects, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Offering practical workshops to increase understanding of and engagement in education research.
- Organising communities of practice and knowledge-sharing events.
- Communicating about UM education research to both internal and external audiences.
We are guided in our work by the EDLAB Education Research Sounding Board (ERSB), a group of representatives from all UM faculties who share a passion and vision for supporting UM education research.

Education research grant project: Using weekly online quizzes for multivariable calculus
In 2022, Martijn Boussé received an education research grant to implement weekly online quizzes for multivariable calculus in collaboration with students. The project brought together staff from the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) and the School of Business and Economics (SBE). Crucially, the quiz system used randomisation, parametrisation, diversification, and answer-dependent feedback to make the learning experience more meaningful to students.
