UM Education Days 2023: A recap
To You, what is Teaching & Learning all about? This question was the main theme of the second edition of the UM Education Days on 7-8 June 2023, when over 140 colleagues and students, along with 30+ presenters from various departments of Maastricht University, came together for two days filled with discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities at EDLAB.
In a vibrant atmosphere, we engaged on topics ranging from assessment, tutoring, advising, and technology to inclusivity, feedback, educational design, and much more!
Once again, EDLAB provided a space and an opportunity for all education enthusiasts at Maastricht University to share, learn, discuss and enjoy all things education.
The next edition of the UM Education Days will take place on 12-13 June 2024. Save the dates!
"The UM Education Days are like a great candy shop"
What did we talk about?
Event report: "To You, what is Teaching and Learning all about?"
If anyone thought the Education Days would be a time of merely sitting and watching unilateral presentations, they were sorely mistaken. During a creative workshop led by Burak Can, we crafted – Burak used the Dutch word “knutselen” - with live moss and the bounty of nature surrounding us to visualise an educational challenge. Some sessions even took us to the park and the inner-city University Library.
Participants found themselves presented with the delightful conundrum of having to select which workshops to attend, due to their simultaneous scheduling. However, the choice was easier for some than others: "I know most of the presenters; whatever they produce – it's going to be quality."

Why join the UM Education Days?
For me, it’s really this very important moment of networking and connecting. The UM Education Days make me feel reinvigorated in my beliefs and see that we are all striving towards the same goal. And that I’m not alone. I love them!
I got answers to many of my questions without having to pose them in several emails back and forth. And I got to meet people who were using the same tools or the same teaching methodology, and I got to exchange a lot of ideas with them.
I like to grow, I like to develop my skills, and I like to improve myself constantly. And I think that the UM Education Days are an excellent way to do that.
The UM Education Days are like a great candy shop, where we can look at what others have done, have created, and showcase our own work.
