Valery Samantha Bermúdez García, MA Globalisation and Development Studies

Valery is from Bogotá, Colombia, has a bachelor’s degree in Government and International Relations from the Universidad Externado de Colombia in Bogotá and she decided to come to Maastricht for the master’s programme in Globalisation and Development Studies.

“I discovered the programme during my online research. Maastricht University has a very good reputation internationally. I also contacted the previous ambassador of this programme. She explained many things to me, such as the content of the programme, the life in Maastricht and she gave me some important tips. My mind was made up, so I applied and I was accepted. Afterwards, I thanked the previous ambassador in person. I also looked at other universities in Europe, but Maastricht University stood out in so many ways. During the whole process, everyone was very helpful and friendly and this made me feel welcome. Once I graduate, I want to work for a non-governmental organisation (NGO) or an international institution for developing countries, perhaps as a consultant. After this master’s programme, I will have all the tools and knowledge I need to contribute to the improvement of the conditions in developing countries."
