Dr Roy Erkens (R.H.J.)
My main research focus has been the investigation of patterns in plant biodiversity within the Neotropics and Europe. In this way I contribute to a better understanding of the build-up and regulation of biodiversity (genetic and biological).
Next to this I am involved in teaching at the Maastricht Science Programme, focussing on evolution, biodiversity and (molecular) systematics.

Dr Roy Erkens (R.H.J.)
At the Maastricht Science Programme I am responsible for teaching plant evolutionary biology.
In the curriculum of MSP I coordinate the following courses and skills (practical courses):
- General Botany (BIO2003)
- Tropical ecology (BIO3007)
- Research, data analysis and presentation skills (PRA1002)
- Exploring the world of plants (PRA2011)
- Limburg Landscape (PRA3011)
Furthermore I am involved in teaching in Field skills in biology (PRA2009).
Lastly, I am the chair of the Educational Programme Committee of MSP.
My current research interests lie with the flora of South Limburg and within the South American Annonaceae plant family (primarily focussing on the genus Guatteria - in the past funded by the VENI scheme of NWO).
