How to apply

The Maastricht Graduate School of Law welcomes proposals for PhD research undertaken at the Faculty of Law or from your own country. Applicants must draft their own research proposal within the context of the research themes in which staff members of the Faculty of Law are experts. Please note that we will only assess proposals that include the name of the envisaged supervisor(s); you will find an overview of our institutes and their research fellows here

Your application will first be assessed by the proposed supervisor. Part of the application procedure is an interview with a committee of faculty professors. In the 2024/2025 academic year, interviews will take place on the following Tuesdays:

  • 8 October 2024 (application deadline: 17 September)
  • 10 December 2024 (application deadline: 19 November)
  • 18 February 2025 (application deadline: 28 January)
  • 15 April 2025 (application deadline: 25 March)
  • 17 June 2025 (application deadline: 27 May)

Applications must include all the documents listed below:

  • Detailed CV, including relevant publications (1 document)
  • Academic transcript and diploma of: 1) Bachelor’s and 2) Master’s (2 documents)
  • A letter of motivation (1 document)
  • A Master's thesis or another substantial piece of writing in English or Dutch (1 document)
  • Your research proposal, following this format (1 document)

     

  • A letter of commitment from the proposed supervisor (1 document)
