How to apply

The Maastricht Graduate School of Law welcomes proposals for PhD research undertaken at the Faculty of Law or from your own country. Applicants must draft their own research proposal within the context of the research themes in which staff members of the Faculty of Law are experts. Please note that we will only assess proposals that include the name and signatures of the envisaged supervisors; you will find an overview of our institutes and their research fellows here

Your application will first be assessed by the proposed supervisor. Part of the application procedure is an interview with a committee of faculty professors. In the 2026/27 academic year, interviews will take place on the following Thursdays:

  • 15 October 2026 (application deadline: 24 September)
  • 3 December 2026 (application deadline: 12 November)
  • 18 February 2027 (application deadline: 28 January)
  • 15 April 2027 (application deadline: 25 March)
  • 17 June 2027 (application deadline: 27 May)

 

Applications must include all the documents listed below:

  • Detailed CV, including relevant publications (1 document)
  • Academic transcript and diploma of: 1) Bachelor’s and 2) Master’s (2 documents)
  • A letter of motivation (1 document)
  • A Master's thesis or another substantial piece of writing in English or Dutch (1 document)
  • Your research proposal, following this format (1 document)
