In Memoriam Mathieu Segers
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Prof. Dr. Mathieu Segers, a respected scholar and public thinker in the field of European integration. After a courageous battle against illness, he passed away on December 16, 2023.
As a professor at Maastricht University and Studio Europa Maastricht, Segers dedicated himself passionately to European integration, transatlantic relations and contemporary European issues. His love for Europe originated in youthful conversations at the kitchen table in Maastricht and laid the foundation for an impressive academic career.
Mathieu's brave fight against illness was an ordeal, and as colleagues, we empathised deeply with him. He remained a beacon of strength. With his passing, the Netherlands loses a valuable voice in the European debate. We cherish the memory of Mathieu as a dedicated colleague, devoted husband and father, an impassioned speaker, and a sharp analyst with a distinctive style.
Read the extensive in memoriam in honor of Prof. Dr. Mathieu Segers for a deeper understanding of his legacy and contributions to the academic world.
Staff can write their personal thoughts in the book of condolences in the central hall at Minderbroedersberg 4-6. It is also possible to extend your condolences online.
