Foundation makes major donation for biochemical research
The Heerlen-based dr. ir. J.H.J. van de Laar Foundation for Scientific Biochemical Research has made a sum of €400,000 available to the Limburg University Fund (SWOL). This generous donation, together with the addition of third-party funds, has helped to establish the Van De Laar Fund under the umbrella of the Limburg University Fund.
At the request of the donating foundation, the Van De Laar Fund will support scientific studies into the biochemistry of cardiovascular disease, and the application of this research within translational medicine, carried out by the Maastricht Cardiovascular Research Institute (CARIM).
As regards the use of the funds, the intention is to apply them towards support of biochemical education and research with the involvement of guest professors from leading universities by setting up a 'dr.ir. van de Laar chair for the biochemistry of coagulation'.
The Van De Laar Fund was established by the signature of an agreement between the dr.ir. J.H.J. van de Laar Foundation and the Limburg University Fund on 25 August.
