UM’s University Colleges again dominate Elsevier ranking
Both University Colleges of Maastricht University (UM) again dominate the University Colleges category in the Best Studies ranking of Elsevier magazine. University College Maastricht (UCM) takes first place in the 2018 edition, closely followed by University College Venlo (UCV). Last year, UCV came in first, UCM second. According to the ranking, UCM has the best teachers in the Netherlands.
Eighteen Bachelor's programmes
Elsevier has assessed eighteen Maastricht Bachelor's programmes and has compared fifteen of them to programmes elsewhere. Data Science and Knowledge Engineering, the Maastricht Science Programme and European Public Health are unique and therefore not included in a comparison. Three degree programmes end up in first place: Arts and Culture, European Studies and University College Maastricht. Fiscal Economics is the most improved course in terms of student assessment. The Bachelor of Medicine boasted the largest percentage of UM students recommending their programme to others.
Fourteen Master's programmes
In addition, Elsevier compared fourteen UM Master's programmes with other programmes. Of these, three programmes take first place: Artificial Intelligence, Health Sciences (research) and Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology (research). Econometrics and Operations Research shows a significant improvement in student satisfaction. Management of Learning also has very satisfied students this year.
The Best Studies ranking, based on the National Student Survey (NSE), is composed of students’ ratings in six categories: facilities, education, design of the programmes, teachers, testing, organisation and communication.
