CHOOSE or LOSE: another road to China’s Sustainable Development - A law and economics analysis of corporate sustainable theories and practices
 

On Monday, 2 October 2017, UM professor Liesbeth Lijnzaad will be sworn in as a judge on the International Tribunal for the Laws of the Sea in Hamburg. Lijnzaad is a extraordinary professor Practice of International Law at Maastricht University. She has worked for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1994, where she provides the government with advice on matters related to international law. 

Maastricht University teams have a long tradition of scoring very high in the European Law Moot Court Competition (ELMC). Organized annually since 1988, the ELMC is a bilingual moot court (French-English) focused on topical issues of European Law.

In August, Maastricht University staff visited the introduction camps organised by student associations to monitor compliance with agreements on initiation rituals. They found that Tragos and Circumflex violated a number of provisions under the Code of Conduct.

On September 22, Prof. Dr. Kai Klopp, chairman of the sponsorship society for the promotion of the Institut für Texiltechnik of RWTH Aachen University bestowed the “Fibers - our Future” Young Talent Award upon ITA student Kira Heins.

Thursday 21 September Maastricht Science Programme (MSP) and Natural History Museum Maastricht signed the covenant, making their collaboration official.

Martin Unfried from the Institute for Transnational and Euregional Cross-border cooperation and Mobility / ITEM of Maastricht University was present at the launch conference 'Boosting Growth and Cohesion in EU Border Regions' of the European Commission in Brussels. During the event Unfried gave background information about ITEM’s annual Cross-border Impact Assessment, which was put forward by the Commission as a good practice in regards to the improvement of the legislative process within the European Union.

No fewer than three academics from the Scientific Programme Indonesia-Netherlands (SPIN) will be obtaining their doctoral degree at Maastricht University (UM) in the coming week.

On Friday 22 September, Maastricht University signed a new partnership with the United Nations Social Impact Fund (UNSIF) and nine leading universities worldwide to join the UNSIF Research Council.
