The Executive Board has appointed Dr Dominic Coppens as Professor of International Economic Law with effect from 1 September 2022 for 0.2 FTE; he succeeds Prof Peter Van den Bossche.

Cross-border business in the Euregio Maas-Rhine (EMR), i.e. business in the border area between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, offers many opportunities. But what are the general requirements for starting up a business in the different countries? And what do I need to pay attention to as an entrepreneur? These types of questions and more are covered in the new brochure "Crossing borders as a self-employed professional between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany".

This issue was discussed on 17 February 2022 by the ITEM Expertise Centre with representatives of the specialised advisory and border information services in the cultural sector, as well as politicians and (local) authorities of the EMR. In successful cooperation with the ZZP-fabriek, the GrenzInfoPunt Aachen-Eurode (GIP) and the cooperation Smart, an online expert meeting in the shape of a round table was organised as part of the Interreg V youRegion project.

Het Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility / ITEM is per februari 2017 op zoek naar versterking van haar team in de vorm van:  Stagiaire communicatie; Stagiaire 'Event organizer ITEM'; Stagiaire (1.0 fte) (Monitoring Service Grensoverschrijdende Arbeidsbemiddeling).

Martin Unfried, 'ontgrenzer' at the ITEM expertise centre has presented the ITEM Cross-border impact assessment at the conference "Grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit an der deutschen Außengrenze - Herausforderungen, Hindernisse und Entwicklungschancen" in Berlin on 12 and 13 December 2016.

On Friday 16 December 2016 Prof. dr. Anouk Bollen-Vandenboorn accepted the unique chair ‘Cross-border Pension Tax Law’. The video of the inaugural lecture of Prof. dr. Anouk Bollen-Vandenboorn, titled 'Cross-border fiscal organisation of pensions' is now available.

Alexander Hoogenboom, scientific coordinator at ITEM, is the winner of the Ius Commune Prize of 2016. Alexander Hoogenboom won the 2016 Ius Commune Prize for his paper ‘In Search of a Rationale for the EU Citizenship Jurisprudence’. The prize was awarded at the 15th Ius Commune Conference on 24 November 2016.

Migratierecht en -beleid gaan veelal uit van een eenheid: verblijf en ‘bezigheid’ — werk, studie/stage, onderzoek, et cetera — in één land. Maar diezelfde eenheid levert problemen op in de grensstreken. Niet zozeer voor EU-burgers, die het ‘recht op vrij verkeer’ hebben, maar wel voor zogenoemde ‘derdelanders’, grof gezegd mensen zonder EU, EER of Zwitserse nationaliteit.
