Scientists Daniel Keszthelyi and Anna Beckers from Maastricht University (UM) are to receive a prestigious European grant for early career researchers: the Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC).

A lack of coordinated arrangements between neighbouring countries is making it extremely difficult to realise a successful energy transition in the German-Dutch border regions. These are the findings of the annual Cross-border Impact Assessment by the ITEM expertise centre (part of Maastricht University).

The ITEM Cross-Border Impact Assessment 2021 took a closer look at the tax and social security implications of homeworking by cross-border workers in the homeworking dossier. Together with the Secretariat-General of the Benelux Union, the ITEM Expertise Centre organised the Benelux - ITEM Conference "The Future of Work - Working from Home from a Cross-Border Perspective" on Thursday 13 October 2022 in Brussels.

M-EPLI is happy to welcome a new PhD researcher, Iris Xu. Iris studied the marketisation of Dutch higher education institutions in China for her MA Thesis. She will join M-EPLI as of 1 December 2022 to carry out research on the effectiveness and acceptability of personalised law in privacy protection for social media users in China, the EU, and the US. Coming from an interdisciplinary background, Iris received her Bachelor’s degree in anthropology and psychology from Lafayette College and her Master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Amsterdam. Her research will incorporate interdisciplinary methods, including doctrinal legal research, experiments, and interviews, to comprehensively understand the potentiality of personalised law in privacy protection and to understand the boundary of it within the legal frameworks of different regions and from the perspectives of individuals.

Graduates during COVID-19 pandemic more satisfied with completed course than their predecessors

The new dean of SBE, Marielle Heijltjes, is a product of Maastricht University. In 1985 she was among only the second cohort of business-economics students. “When I take office as SBE dean, I’ll be the first alum and the first woman in that role. I’ve always thought fondly of the school."
