International Law Discussion Group (ILDG) Lecture Series

In the Maastricht International Law Discussion Group (ILDG), contemporary issues in international law are discussed. The participants also use the forum to present and receive feedback on their work in research seminars. The group consists of academics, practitioners, and students, both from the Faculty of Law and beyond.

The end of 2021 saw the first ILDG Online Lecture Series, in which prominent international lawyers presented their work and led discussions on current issues and challenges in international law. Among the speakers were academics, members of the International Law Commission (ILC), and an international judge. All five of these lectures were extremely engaging, providing enough fuel for the discussions that followed. Topics ranged from the relationship between international law and philosophy, to a sneak peek of recent state responses to the ongoing work at the ILC.

This lecture series aims to promote the exchange of ideas on a diverse array of topics. Presenters are leading experts and emerging voices in their fields and participants range from eager bachelor students to renowned international judges. This broad range of perspectives allows for lively debate. A second series is planned for spring 2022, with another excellent line-up of speakers.
