20 August 2018

INKOM 2018 has started

Today, 2,618 students from Maastricht University and 382 students from Zuyd University of Applied Sciences started their introduction week in Maastricht. 'This is a record number in the history of INKOM and we're completely sold out,' says president Mauk van Bergen. The theme of INKOM 2018 is 'Adventure Awaits’. From Monday 20 August to Friday 24 August, the students will have the opportunity to get to know each other and the city of Maastricht.

On Monday, students will have the opportunity to explore the city. That afternoon, an information market will be held followed by a dinner for students and their mentors. INKOM will be officially opened that evening with performances by DJ Tjukster, Band with Benefits, Lawineboys and Dirtcaps.

On Tuesday, students will receive an introduction to academic life and can attend a range of workshops. During the Ozon Festival in the city park that afternoon, student organisations and student associations will present themselves to students while they enjoy music and drinks. As per tradition, a pub crawl will be organised that evening, followed by the MECC Tuesday Party, with performances by DJ FRAME, Puinhoop Kollektiv, DJ Jody Bernal and DJ Paul Elstak.

Wednesday will start with a sports activity at the University Sports Centre. Students can relax during a picnic and then participate in the activities organised by the student associations, organisations and societies. Several of Maastricht's cultural institutions will introduce themselves during Night at the Museum, which will be held this year at the Bonnefantenmuseum.

Thursday will start with an afternoon sports event, followed by a barbecue at Onze Lieve Vrouwewal and a party with a cantus at the MECC (for students aged 18 and older). A film night has been organised for students under the age of 18.

Friday is the last day of INKOM 2018. As on Wednesday, the students can join a workout at the University Sports Centre in the morning and then lounge the day away at Fun Valley in the afternoon. A dinner and several career workshops will be organised for master's students, and in the evening the stand-up comedy act Stranger Things Have Happened will perform. INKOM 2018 will end with a big party at the MECC.

Activities available to non-students

Most activities are also open to non-students. Maastricht residents are welcome to attend the opening event at the market on Monday evening and Night at the Museum on Wednesday. For more information about the full programme for INKOM 2018, visit www.inkom.nl and facebook.com/inkommaastricht.
