Jill Lobbestael studied Mental Health, (1998-2002) and received her PhD in 2008 at Maastricht University on cognitive beliefs and childhood trauma in borderline and antisocial personality disorders. The same year, she was appointed assistant professor. In 2009, she was a visiting research fellow at the Psychology department at Harvard University (Boston, USA). She was awarded with a postdoc fellowship of the Niels Stensen foundation that allowed her to work at the Department of Social Psychology at Florida State University (Tallahassee, USA) from 2010 till 2011. Between 2009-2019, Lobbestael headed the scientific track of the post-doctoral Clinical Psychology track at Rino Zuid, and worked as a clincial therapist in the Personality Disorder team at Riagg Maastricht. Now Associate Professor and funded by NWO (Veni, Brain&Cognition), she set up research lines on the cognitive, biological, and neurological correlates of reactive and proactive aggression. In 2020, she received the education prize of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. She heads the Clinical Psychology Section and the Young Academics Mentor program at FPN; and is the director of the Graduate School at FPN.
