Ukraine: Member of the European Family?
Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
On May 9, some three months after the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion, Ukraine submitted to the European Union the completed second part of the questionnaire required to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership. European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen stated that the European Commission would work hard to review the 4,000 pages of the completed questionnaire submitted by Ukraine to make a decision in June this year.
Tonight Emine Dzhaparova will elaborate on the Russian-Ukrainian war, the geopolitical aspects and the European integration of Ukraine and the issue of the candidate status. After this short talk, the audience can discuss about Ukraine’s accession to the EU. What does the European perspective for Ukraine look like? Can Ukraine meet the political and economic conditions required by the EU? How will its relation with Russia look like in his context?
Prof. Mathieu Segers, Professor of Contemporary European History and European Integration, will moderate the evening.
