Yet fertility is still characterised by injustice: the criminalisation of abortion, higher mother and baby mortality rates among people of colour and mounting evidence of transgressive behaviour in obstetrics. Doe mee aan de UM dialogen over academische vrijheid!

UM-medewerkers en -studenten worden uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan drie kleine groepsdialogen over academische vrijheid. In een respectvolle omgeving zullen de deelnemers perspectieven uitwisselen. Elke dialoog verkent een ander aspect van deze belangrijke kwestie. Op 22 april wordt gesproken over Grenzen van betrokkenheid – balans tussen academische vrijheid, maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid, activisme en protesten.

Vaccinatie in de kindertijd vereist zorgvuldige overweging en goed geïnformeerde besluitvorming. Dit kan vaak moeilijk zijn wanneer ouders overspoeld worden met informatie uit verschillende bronnen – waaronder de gezondheidszorg, de overheid en traditionele of sociale mediaplatforms. Misleiding of tegenstrijdige informatie kan ouders onzeker en aarzelend maken in hun keuzes.
Dit panel heeft tot doel een veilige, respectvolle ruimte voor betrokkenen te creëren om een open discussie over terughoudendheid en vertrouwen bij vaccinatie te stimuleren en de kloof tussen het algemene publiek en experts te overbruggen.

British-Russian composer Elena Langer mocks and questions our obsession with celebrity – and shows how we should embrace the chaotic, gruesome, joyful and beautiful nature of life. Originally commissioned by the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre in Moscow, this opera was cancelled after the invasion of Ukraine. The piece was deemed insufficiently patriotic. The Reisopera is proud to be able to give this exceptional new opera its world premiere after all.
The existential angst of the main character Semyón Podsekayev drives him to suicide, but he hopes that playing the tuba will save him. This fails miserably.

Whereas modern Europe was built by movements and parties in pursuit of a better world to come, today’s politicians seem increasingly focused on short-term concerns. Every year, King Ouf I looks forward to the birthday present he thought up himself: the execution of a random subject. This year, the choice falls on the brazen pedlar Lazuli. However, the court astrologer Siroco warns the king that Ouf's star is closely linked to Lazuli's. So if he dies, Ouf dies too. But of course, his majesty will not let that happen, and Lazuli's life is closely guarded. He is extremely pampered and even gets to marry the princess in the end!
