Alessandro Cuomo holds a Masters Degree in Law from Roma Tre University (cum laude, 2019) and an LL.M. in International Financial Law from King's College (Distinction, 2021). He was an exchange student at the University of Washington School of Law in 2018.
He has served as trainee for both the European Commission (2020) and the European Central Bank (2021-2022).
Since September 2022, he has been a Ph.D. researcher at the Law Faculty of the Maastricht University, working under the supervision of Professor Phedon Nicolaides and Professor Ellen Vos. Since September 2023, he has been serving as Young Researcher at the European Banking Institute.
His research focuses on the legal powers and responsibility of the European Central Bank in the field of monetary policy. He investigates how the interpretation of the ECB’s monetary mandate provides the discursive space for the legitimisation or contestation of its evolving role in the EU constitutional order. In particular, he focuses on the implications of the development of "green" monetary policy for the understanding of the ECB as a monetary authority.
