Boukje Compen, Ph.D. (B.C.M.)
Boukje Compen is an assistant professor affiliated with the Department of Educational Development and Research and the School of Health Professions Education (Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences). She combines her work for the Taskforce Faculty Development with her role of vice-director of the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE), and teaching activities in the Medicine and Health Sciences programmes.
Her research focuses on bridging educational theory and practice, with a particular interest in how faculty development can support teachers in fostering inclusive learning environments. Together with PhD students, she investigates how teachers can address diverse student learning needs and could contribute to students feeling identity safe in small student groups. Another strand of her research explores teacher identity among health professionals, who balance teaching with patient care and research. Among others, Boukje studies how teaching is shaped not only by competencies but also by how individuals see themselves as teachers, as well as by contextual factors in their work environment.
