Graduation
Getting close to graduation is an exciting time, but there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure everything runs smoothly. In most cases, you do not have to submit a formal request to graduate. Once you have earned the required ECTS and met all other examination requirements, you will automatically receive a notification from your faculty confirming that you’re ready to graduate. However, if you are graduating any other time than June, July or August, you will need to remember to deregister from Maastricht University (UM), as this process is not automatic for you.
Graduating in summer: Deregistration is automatic
If your graduation falls in June, July or August, you don't need to worry about deregistering. You will be automatically deregistered as of 1 September. Until 1 September, you can still use Maastricht University's facilities, as partial tuition fee refunds are not processed in July and August.
Graduating in spring or fall: Deregister in Studielink
If your graduation falls in any month other than June, July or August, you will need to deregister in Studielink by the deadline, which you can find XXXX. To deregister, go to Studielink and choose ‘Request for termination of enrolment’ under ‘Study programme details’.
Partial refund of tuition fees
If you are entitled to a partial refund of the tuition fees you paid, then this will be automatically refunded to the account of the payer after your deregistration is processed.
Cancel Dutch student finance
If you are receiving Dutch student finance (e.g. student travel card, grants), you will need to cancel these via the DUO website (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs).
Postponing your graduation
In exceptional cases, you can submit a 'request to postpone graduation’ to the examination committee of your programme. Please ensure you do this before you submit your final assignment or complete your last exam. Please contact the examination board of your study programme for more information.
Diploma Supplement
Upon graduating, you will receive a Diploma Supplement (DS), an internationally recognised document that describes the nature, level, context, content and status of your programme.
Accessing your diploma online
DUO will include your diploma in an online overview called 'Mijn diploma's' (My diplomas), where you can easily verify and download the details of your diploma.
Career support after graduation
As a new graduate, you still be able to use UM Career Services for six months. You can take advantage of career advice, job application training and workshops on personal development. Plus, you’ll have access a comprehensive vacancy database.
