S. Weiland

I am a PhD candidate at the School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University. My research interests lie in the fields of industrial organization, (evolutionary) game theory, bounded rationality, landscape theory, and complexity.

Decision making units of various kinds must make numerous choices in the face of dynamic, competitive and complex environments, incomplete information, uncertainty, and bounded rationality. How should agents navigate such environments to gain and maintain an advantage over their competitors? What are the economic consequences in terms of innovation, productivity and efficiency, product differentiation, and consumer welfare? And (how) can we improve these systems to enhance social welfare? I’m intrigued by these and similar questions, and I explore them theoretically and computationally.

I am supervised by Jaap Bos from the Finance Department and Robin Cowan from the United Nations University (UNU-MERIT).

I hold a Research Master’s (MSc) in Economic and Financial Research from Maastricht University and a Bachelor (BSc) in Management and Economics from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
