Prof Dr Sofie De Broe (S.)

I have a chair by special appointment in Smart Statistics for Policy Design and Development at the Department of Data Analytics and Digitalization of Maastricht University. After  working as a researcher at Imperial College in London (UK), I did a PhD at the University of Southampton (UK) in social statistics/reproductive health. Between 2007 and 2012 I worked at the Office for National Statistics in Titchfield (UK) on improving migration statistics. In 2012 I moved with my family to Germany where I taught research methods at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).  Between 2015 and 2021 I worked at Statistics Netherlands in Heerlen (The Netherlands) as head of Methodology and Scientific Director of the Centre for Big Data Statistics (CBDS). I currently work for Sciensano in Brussels (Belgium), the public health institute of Belgium from where I fulfil the role of leading official of the Health Data Agency.
