What you can do on site
Working online or on campus both come with specific advantages and limitations. Difficult to replace in an online setting are factors such as social interaction and team building, which are critical for students’ engagement. The general recommendation is to focus on these aspects when you structure your on-site sessions, when students and staff actually meet.
Use on-site time to let students work and discuss in small groups: how they understand the ILO’s, want to attain them, how they want to collaborate. How students discuss and collaborate can be structured to a large extent by the course coordinator. On site sessions may resemble PBL pre-discussions a lot, but avoid guessing games, and facilitate more straightforward discussion of rationale, relevance and motivation.
