A successful Bachelor’s Open Day

Once again, our Bachelor’s Open Day drew in large crowds of prospective students, parents and other visitors on Saturday.

The morning sessions, in particular, were well-attended, but there was hardly any congestion and the day passed off smoothly. All this despite the absence of the Open Day app, which allows easy check-in and provides practical information. “It’s proved to be a really useful app, but we had to make do without it today and managed quite well,” says Yvette Sliepen, one of the organisers. Her team received positive feedback from the visitors.

Reactions

“The event is well-structured, the staff and students are very friendly and helpful, and it’s good to talk to students from my own country and find out what it’s like to study here,” said Aleksandra, a 22-year-old prospective student from Poland/Germany.

Samuel Hawser (17) from Italy/France was very pleased with the Q&A session he had with the Talk-to-an-International-Student team at the Student Services Centre. He visited several sessions, including Student Story International Business, Admissions and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). “I’m impressed by the quality of education and the personal approach, which you don’t find at many other universities. The same goes for working in groups as part of PBL. That really appeals to me.”

Attendance

Estimates put attendance at around the same as last year, with an equal split between Dutch and non-Dutch visitors. Their exact number is unknown as the registration system was down due to the Christmas Eve cyber attack on UM.

As usual, the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences proved to be the most popular faculty. On the other side of the river, the School of Business Economics attracted most prospective students.

The next Master’s Open Day will take place on Saturday, 7 March 2020.
