Prof. dr. dr. A.J. Roefs, affiliated with Maastricht University of Maastricht University (UM), has received a Vici grant of €1.5 million from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
Understanding Overweight and Obesity: The end of Average
Professor Roefs will use the grant to investigate how predictors of overweight differ across people, and if the effectiveness of an intensive lifestyle intervention -on the short and longer term—depends on individual profiles including person characteristics, biological, psychological, environmental, and behavioral variables. Moreover, she will investigate how these profiles translate to behavior in daily life. Using an app, questions about (un)healthy eating behavior and physical activity, and variables that can affect these behaviors (e.g., stress) are asked multiple times per day. Roefs will test if daily behavior becomes healthier after the intervention and relates to weight change. This research takes an important step towards personalized interventions.
NWO Talent Programme
The Talent Programme offers personal grants to talented, creative researchers. This enables them to conduct the research of their choice. The Talent Scheme has three funding instruments (Veni, Vidi, Vici) tailored to various phases in researchers' scientific careers. Researchers can apply for a maximum amount of 280,000 euros for Veni, 800,000 euros for Vidi, and 1.5 million euros for Vici.
