Prof. Gerard René de Groot elected member of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages
On 14 December 2016 the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe elected Prof. René de Groot as a member of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages.
The Committee of Experts examines the periodical reports which the 25 States Parties are required to submit every three years. After a preliminary examination of the state report, a working group of three experts carries out an on-the-spot visit the State Party, consulting representatives of the national minorities/ language groups and the authorities on the practical implementation of the Charter in the country. On the basis of the information gathered an evaluation report and recommendations are adopted.
The election of Prof. de Groot is for a term of six years. On the 14th December 2016 the Committee of Ministers also adopted the 5th evaluation report on the implementation of the Charter in the Netherlands.
