New Portuguese medical faculty based on the UM model
On Thursday 6 and Friday 7 April a Portuguese delegation visited FHML for a further introduction to our teaching system, facilities and staff in preparation for a new international higher education project.
Coordinated by SHE Collaborates, this joint project will set up a six-year medical curriculum in Portugal, to be taught in English and based on the Maastricht University model. The new medical faculty will be established in Cascais in association with the municipality of Cascais and Grupo Luz Saúde, a major healthcare provider in Portugal.
Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) is a private university and will be the first to offer a private, English-taught medical curriculum in Portugal. With the partnership agreement between UM/FHML and UCP signed in Lisbon on 24 February, the next step will be to apply for programme accreditation, design the curriculum, and build a new faculty and hospital in Cascais so that the first 100 bachelor's students can enrol as from September 2020.
