Keuzegids Bachelors 2018: seal of quality for three UM colleges
The ‘Keuzegids Bachelors 2018’, released today, shows a continued increase in our university’s scores. Our students’ positive evaluation has seen many programmes rise in the national rankings. All three UM colleges have been awarded a seal of quality, which distinguishes them as top programmes. Remarkably, University College Venlo, participating for the first time, leads the field; University College Maastricht and the Maastricht Science Programme also remain at the top of the Keuzegids.
High number of top programmes
15 of our 18 bachelor’s programmes, two more than last year, are among the top 3 in their field, improving UM’s position in the category ‘overige universiteiten’ (i.e. smaller, younger, or specialised universities). 7 of our programmes managed to rise in the rankings. 3 of them finished top of their table; a further 4 UM programmes retained their top-position, among which Knowlegde Engineering. Most strikingly, Psychology advanced from 9th in 2014 to 1st place in the latest ranking, while Dutch Law rose from 8th last year to 3rd. FHML’s Medicine programme improved from 6th place in 2015 to 2nd place, while Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences require some attention in the upcoming year. Four of our SBE programmes come in 2nd and FASoS shows an encouraging overall trend with Arts and Culture as well as European Studies steadily increasing their scores.
Quality assessment
The Keuzegids assesses several aspects of our education. As the country’s most international university, UM scores highest in the categories international exchange and international outlook. The quality of English as the language of instruction at UM is also ranked top of the table. Most UM programmes score particularly high for their practice-oriented approach, their facilities and their curricula.
About the Keuzegids
An independent editorial team at the Centrum Hoger Onderwijs Informatie (Centre for Higher Education Information) compiles the annual Keuzegids as a guide for prospective students. The 2018 rankings are based on student and expert evaluations of the programmes, lecturers, facilities, etc. A full copy of the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2018 can be found on the Keuzegids website.
