Hi! I am Kimberly and I am doing my PhD on mass spectrometry-based methods of imaging of small molecules and proteins in M4i under Dr. Sebastiaan van Nuffel. In particular, we are interested to develop a methodology for MSI-based immunohistochemistry (IHC) using state-of-the-art ToF-SIMS instrument. Then further apply this in biological samples to obtain multilevel and correlative multi-omic data. It is now clear that to understand biology, it is necessary to employ an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to identify the “molecular players”, their structures, functions, and most importantly, their interactions. Thus mass spectrometry is integral to modern biochemical research.
Career history
I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in the University of the Philippines-Diliman, where I worked as a research assistant for the mass spec facility after graduation. I obtained my Masters in Science in Kyoto University under the MEXT scholarship from the Japanese government. I worked for a while as a senior associate chemistry specialist for database curation from chemistry journals and patents.
