Secret Friend
After nearly three decades of democratic stability, Brazil is flirting with fascism. Journalists from the newspaper El País and The Intercept are investigating how an anti-corruption operation is being misused by an unscrupulous judge as an instrument of ideological persecution, and how this has helped the extreme right and Bolsonaro to power. ‘Lawfare’ – the use of jurisdiction as a weapon against political opponents – is endangering democracy all over the world.
Pablo del Hierro will introduce the documentary. He is an Assistant Professor in History at the University of Maastricht, where he obtained his Doctorate in the European University Institute. He specializes in international relations during the Cold War, with special emphasis on the decolonization process, and political history in the twentieth century, focusing on right wing movements and neo-fascism.
