Well-being week 2018

From stress and perfectionism to mental health problems - and how to escape

Striving for excellence feels wonderful because you are trying your very best. Perfectionism feels terrible because your work is somehow never quite good enough. High levels of perfectionism do not help you to feel good and might lower your sense of self-worth.

A lower sense of self-worth usually leads to setting higher personal standards, which is dangerous: you easily enter a vicious circle of stress and frustration ending up in serious mental problems. Even when you do not develop a full-blown mental illness, chronic stress might truly affect your daily life, study performance and well-being. Anita Jansen will demonstrate some vicious circles that could make your student life less fun than it should be, and some strategies to escape from the circles.
