"Implementing home-based sexual health care in public health: An evidence-based integrated care approach for ending the HIV epidemic"
This dissertation focuses on the implementation of home-based sexual health care to prevent HIV and STI, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). Key components of this care approach include self-sampling testing and online sexual health counseling. The “Limburg4zero” project was established using a systematic implementation model (PRISM) to deploy this form of care effectively and sustainably.
For implementation, it was important to offer tailored testing options, clear instructions, and personal guidance. Co-creation with health care providers was an important aspect, with their feedback used to improve the care service. Combining home-based sexual health care with location-based consultations proved valuable.
To enhance accessibility, efforts were made to innovate the home testing options. Adjustments were made and evaluated throughout the process to better align the care with the priority population. This dissertation highlights the importance of collaboration, flexibility, and a structured approach for successful and sustainable implementation.
