"Accountability for Human Rights Violations by UN Peacekeepers: A Legal and Theoretical Perspective"
As UN peace operations have expanded, the risk of human rights violations during these operations has become more than a mere theoretical possibility. Yet, redress for these violations has often been lacking. This dissertation aims to address this issue. It does so by first arguing that the UN does indeed have a legal obligation to offer redress in the case of human rights violations by its peacekeepers. Supplementing this legal analysis, it also proposes a theoretical framework that takes into account the specifics of such operations and their operational context. In this way, this dissertation aims to propose a comprehensive solution for the lack of redress currently visible in these operations.
